Diving in the passes...

Home of Moeava, a legendary warrior of the Tuamotu, Makemo is the third largest island by lenght (13 miles). Diving with the tropical reef fish, having a picnic on one of the "motu" or speed boating in the lagoon are some of the activities you can enjoy on this wonderful atoll whose two passes are known to be excellent diving sites for the diversity and richness of their underwater fauna. Makemo is a good place to meet with the Paumotu, skilled fishermen, who might divulge to visitors some of the secrets of the mysterious coral buildings.
